According to Reports, the editor-in-chief of Texas Monthly,
Jake Silverstein, is to be named to the position of editor of the
New York Time Magazine. This is interesting, if for no other reason, because Silverstein was a reporter for
The Big Bend Sentinel in Marfa, Texas in the late 1990s, which was then on its way to becoming a minimalist art mecca. Of course, the industry editors fly the opposite direction as well. In 2007, the former publisher of bothThe New Yorker andMirabella and another editor from
Field & Stream, both ducked south to foundGarden & Gunin sleepy Charleston, South Carolina.
Mr. Silverstein's name may have recently been on the tongue of people who pay attent to crime in Texas on accounty of his magazine's recent re-examination of the Lake Waco murder case. It may have come to the attention of New York publishers on account of
this write up about him in the Columbia Journalism Review last December.
