Unpardonable Criticism

Former Mississippi Governor, chairman of the Republican National Committee, and of the Republican Governor's Association, Haley Barbour, has been at the center of a firestorm of criticism and misinformation over his recent pardon and commutation decisions. Never one to leave critics unanswered, Barbour explains and defends his decisions in an op-ed published by The Washington Post. As Barbour correctly points out, compared to the number of prisoners in Mississippi, the 26 releasees are a miniscule amount. But, compared to Governor Rick Perry's pardon record and national trends, he makes liberal use of his authority.

Update: The Mississippi Supreme Court rejected a challenge to the pardons by the state's attorney general.

Update: President Obama may be "one of the least forgiving presidents in U.S. history."
